The Initiative

The Department of Management Engineering of Politecnico di Torino chose JEToP as its social media manager to launch and handle its Instagram page. The goal was to establish a direct connection between students and professors, enhancing the department's value through a less institutional language that resonates more closely with the university target audience.

The social media strategy was built on a balance between professionalism and approachability, making information both accessible and engaging. The project aims to become a benchmark for future students, alumni, and companies, building an active community around the degree program.

Discovery phase

The Department lacked a structured social media presence outside of LinkedIn. We started from scratch, defining a communication strategy tailored to the target audience and working on the creation of a dedicated editorial line.

The main complexity involved the approval process: every piece of content had to be reviewed and approved by a Department board. This required rigorous planning and strong coordination skills to manage feedback and revisions within tight deadlines.

A key strength was the Department’s desire to adopt a contemporary language that resonates with students, while still maintaining its institutional reliability. The discovery phase successfully balanced innovation with academic values.

Operational phase

Following the approval of the moodboard and naming, the execution phase focused on producing photo and video content. To manage the complexity of the approval process, materials were created well in advance to cover 9–12 weeks, thereby ensuring publishing continuity and streamlining the content review process.

The team's commitment extended to gathering authentic material during graduation ceremonies and conferences. Being physically present at these events allowed us to conduct interviews and create content that speaks the same language as the student community, boosting engagement and the overall effectiveness of the communication.

Results

The results achieved were monitored on a quarterly basis through qualitative and quantitative analyses conducted via Instagram’s analytics tools. Within the first year of activity, the page surpassed 1,000 followers, consistently recording views per content that exceeded three times the number of followers.

Beyond the metrics, a particularly significant outcome was the positive feedback from the client. The Department showed great appreciation for the work delivered, actively contributing to its development through four-monthly alignment meetings. During these sessions, new content pillars and formats were proposed and implemented, further strengthening the effectiveness of the communication strategy.
