The Initiative

Boris Technologies manufactures laser cutting machines. Their systems feature an integrated screen with a proprietary control interface. The company required a complete UX/UI restyling service, as the previous system was obsolete in terms of aesthetics and functionality, in order to maintain competitiveness in a modernising market and improve the user experience.

The goal was to redesign the UX/UI while preserving the company's visual identity. The project involved a complex embedded system: the physical interface of the machine itself. The work was extensive, involving multiple interconnected screens designed for technical use in an industrial environment.

Discovery phase

Before starting the implementation phase, an in-depth analysis and planning process was carried out to understand the client’s needs, clarify workflows and functionalities, and define the overall system structure. The initial meetings with the client helped identify the main issues within the existing interface and establish a shared foundation for the development of the project.

A significant aspect of the project was that this type of work represented a relatively new challenge for the team. Despite this, the team members involved demonstrated strong adaptability, quickly gaining an understanding of the client’s context, the machines’ operation, and the needs of the end users. Constant collaboration and an in-depth analysis of the workflows made it possible to develop a solid and consistent solution.

Operational phase

Following the analysis phase, the two designers worked on the project for several months, developing the solution through clearly defined steps. During the UX phase, the focus was on designing the user experience, with particular attention to clarity, efficiency, and the reduction of errors and ambiguities.

Once the UX structure had been validated, the project moved into the UI design phase. The visual interface was developed in line with Boris Technology’s brand identity, focusing on layouts, colours, typography, and the visual hierarchy of elements. The goal was to create a modern, clear, and professional system while preserving its functionality.

The project was successfully completed, with the client expressing great satisfaction with both the improved user experience and the interface’s visual redesign. The final outcome resulted in a more efficient, intuitive, and modern system, aligned with current UX/UI design standards in the industrial sector. The project also demonstrated the team’s ability to successfully tackle complex and unconventional design challenges.
